Manager Fiona Jansen has been at the store for four years and loves her work there and the people who volunteer their time . She took us for a tour of the facility and it is very well organized. Very friendly volunteers too working in different capacities at the store.
Funds raised through the store go towards supporting the work done at 5 orphanages in Mexico – one facility holds 80 children and the other four are smaller “family style” run facilities. They also support soup kitchens. Here at home they also donate funds to an event in partnership with the BC Children’s Hospital called “Balding for Dollars” to go towards cancer programs.
All clothing donated is used at the store and if not is sent to where it is needed such places as Nepal as well as to the Ukraine.
The store reopened on May 19th with excellent COVID-19 safety standards for both their volunteers and their visitors. Shorter hours of noon to 4:30 (usually 930-430pm) Tuesday to Saturday (Closed on Sunday and Monday’s). Volunteers are always welcomed- at the moment they could use more cashiers, when there is some free time they are kept busy putting out clothing and tidying the racks. It is a very popular store!.
If you are interested in volunteering please email hfcthriftstore@gmail.com or drop by the store and ask for Fiona Jansen or the day manager and also let them know you heard about them through the Langley Volunteer Bureau.
If you have not visited the store you should come by for a visit you will be glad you did!
The store is located at 20211 56 Avenue in Langley City. Stop in and say hello to Maureen (below)..one of their very friendly and welcoming volunteers.
They also are accepting donations on Tuesday and Thursdays.
