What does Rabbitats Rescue Society do?

Their Mission

The Mission of Rabbitats Rescue Society is to promote the welfare of animals and the environment for the benefit of the public by:

  • rescuing abandoned, surrendered, and at-risk domestic rabbits
  • ensuring loose domestic rabbits are humanely removed from the environment
  • operating an animal adoption and relocation program
  • sterilizing, vaccinating, and providing identification for abandoned and feral domestic rabbits
  • designing, constructing, and maintaining colony housing for rescued sterilized rabbits
  • researching, creating, and distributing rabbit educational materials.

Programs

Rabbitats Rescue Society operates a number of sanctuaries for unwanted and abandoned rabbits including two in Langley, and they’re always looking to build more. Rabbitats also stage a number of events (including their signature Meet ‘n’ Treats) and are involved in advocacy and educational programs.

The sanctuaries are located at farms with the rabbits either in barn stalls or purpose-built enclosures. Being around domestic rabbits is a very calming and therapeutic experience. The feeding and cleaning tasks are not recommended for people with allergies.
