  1. Volunteer Assignment: Bingo

Description: Assist / support residents to enjoy a game of Bingo

Purpose:

  1. To enable residents to enjoy leisure activity of interest (Bingo)
  2. To support residents, or assist (when needed), to successfully play Bingo

Qualifications:

  1. Effectively able to communicate with the residents
  2. Familiar with the game of Bingo
  3. Ability to follow instructions of program facilitator
  • Volunteer Assignment: Bus Outing (Country Drive)

Description: Promote and support resident safety and enjoyment of community outings

Purpose:

  1. To provide residents with the opportunity to access the community outside of the Langley Lodge and enjoy a scenic drive

Qualifications:

  1. Safety awareness and understanding
  2. Willingness and ability to take direction from staff
  3. Ability to effectively communicate with residents
  4. Able to physically assist residents on and off of the bus (e.g. Push their wheelchair)
  • Volunteer Assignment: Bus Outing (Lunch Trip)

Description: Promote and support resident safety and enjoyment of community picnic outings

Purpose:

  1. To provide residents with the opportunity to access the community outside of the Langley Lodge and enjoy a scenic drive
  2. To allow residents to enjoy a lunch trip where they can enjoy an outing and a meal

Qualifications:

  1. Awareness and understanding
  2. Able to effectively communicate with residents
  3. Able to physically assist residents on and off of the bus (e.g. Push their wheelchair)
  • Volunteer Assignment: Music Hour with Special Guest

Description: Assist residents to settle in and help serve drinks and treats at Music Hour with our special guest

Purpose:

  1. To enable residents to enjoy a special event where they can listen to music, sing along, and enjoy drinks and treats
  2. To provide opportunities for socialization and self-expression through music

Qualifications:

  1. Able to effectively communicate with residents
  2. Ability to bend, lift, push, pull and to facilitate set up/take down of program and porter residents
  3. Ability to follow instructions of program facilitator
  • Volunteer Assignment: Art Therapy

Description:  Art therapy uses art as a therapeutic means of healing. Art therapy provides an environment that encourages mindfulness, self-compassion, self-expression and creative exploration. Residents are encouraged to participate in discussion and share their artwork and process within the group.

Purpose:

  1. To engage residents in a creative art process.
  2. To encourage residents to participate.

Qualifications:

  1. Artistic abilities/interest in arts and crafts.
  2. Able to follow directions from staff.
  3. Able to work independently.
  4. Able to push a wheelchair.
  5. Skills in listening, socializing and communicating
  6. Basic understanding of the needs of residents.
  7. Patient, kind, easy-going. Able to motivate others, sense of humour
  • Volunteer Assignment: Keep Fit – Standard

Description: Support residents to maintain healthy living and independence through exercise

Purpose:

  1. To support staff in leading the fitness program
  2. To help facilitate the Keep Fit program where residents get the opportunity to enjoy some physical activity

Qualifications:

  1. Able to effectively communicate with residents
  2. Able to assist residents with basic exercises under guidance of staff
  3. To co-facilitate program by leading the warm-up exercise (balloon toss)
  4. Ability to follow instructions of program facilitator
  • Volunteer Assignment: Garden Greens

Description: Assisting residents with the Garden Greens (Horticulture Therapy) program by providing a helping hand

Purpose:

  1. To support and assist resident’s enjoyment of an participation in different gardening practices
  2. To support self-expression through horticulture therapy
  3. To promote sharing of experience and knowledge of gardening, plants and horticulture

Qualifications:

  1. Able to effectively communicate with the residents
  2. Ability to assist residents in the horticulture program as planned by the horticulture therapist
  3. Enjoyment/knowledge of plants and gardening would be an asset
  4. Ability to follow instructions of program facilitator
  5. Maintains an awareness of safety practices relating to equipment and supplies
  • Volunteer Assignment: Tea for Two

Description: An afternoon tea gathering open to all residents at the lodge.

Purpose:

  1. To provide a special gathering for residents for social interaction

Qualifications:

  1. Able to serve drinks and treats to residents while following Residents at Risk Protocol
  2. Able to effectively communicate with residents
  3. Ability to follow instructions of program facilitator
  • Volunteer Assignment: 1:1 Social Visiting

Description: One to one visiting with individual residents at the Lodge

Purpose:

  1. To promote resident socialization, self expression and companionship
  2. To reduce the risk of social isolation amongst residents experiencing varying levels of challenges associated with aging
  3. To reduce or eliminate the resident’s experience/feelings of loneliness, boredom and helplessness
  4. To promote quality of life, meaning and purpose in resident’s lives

Qualifications:

  1. Ability to effectively communicate with residents
  2. Fluency in English or language of resident’s origin
  3. Patience; the ability to be present (silent) and respect resident space
  4. Enthusiasm and desire to facilitate the above stated Purpose
  1. Volunteer Assignment: Hand Chime Choir

Description:  Assists Music Therapist in conducting the hand chime choir program with the residents

Purpose:

  1. To provide residents with the resources to enjoy music and actively participate in making music

Qualifications:

  1. Ability to learn how to use simple hand chimes
  2. Ability to lead a small group
  3. Basic understanding of music and scales
  4. Ability to follow instructions of program facilitator
